Lutheran World Federation/LWF/ - Ethiopia Program is a registered foreign charity which has been operating in Ethiopia since 1973 implementing various development and humanitarian projects in different parts of Ethiopia. LWF Ethiopia works closely with the Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus (EECMY), the Ethiopian Government, UN organizations and other funding partners.  Its thematic areas include promotion of food security and sustainable livelihood, sustainable natural resources management, emergency preparedness, response and rehabilitation, and capacity building.  LWF Ethiopia is currently looking for highly motivated and competent professionals to fill in the following posts:

 

1) Title of Position:  Program Officer - Networking and Accountability Program Officer 

Duty Stations: Addis Ababa 

Job Grade: 17 

Terms of employment is one year with possibility of extension 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Deliver coordinated & integrated humanitarian interventions to reinforce delivery of impact on the ground, bringing priorities from the grass-roots into the universal periodic review (UPR) process and wider development intervention to align this project with right based approaches at community level, ensuring in the long term that local people and communities are able to meet their needs by performing the following:

Build new and/or strengthen existing strategic alliances and networks at the national level by developing a wider partner engagement strategy with LWF;

Define specific change targets with partners that align with structures, policy or implementation in the humanitarian sector and in particular in refugee settings; 

Conduct coordination meetings on refugee issues with communities and relevant state and non-state actors;

Provide inputs that influence LWF’s international political and institutional accountability and inform mechanisms to secure specific improvements particularly in protracted refugee situations in Ethiopia. 

 

Job Requirements

Academic Requirements:

Masters or Bachelor degree in Law, Political Science and International Relation (PSIR) or other related discipline and preferably Masters degree in relevant discipline.

 

Required Experience: 

Minimum of 8 years relevant work experience for Masters Degree and 6 years for Bachelor Degree out of which 3 years is preferable experience in coalition and networking programs in reputable NGOs.

 

Key Competencies:

High level of understanding of international and national legal instruments on human rights; 

Good level of understanding of humanitarian standards and networking strategies within the humanitarian framework;

Good knowledge of key issues in the development and humanitarian sectors, ideally in protracted refugee situations, resilience and social protection, environment/climate change, and sustainable livelihood experience in networking and building strategic alliances with government sectors, private and civil organizations; 

Excellent communications (oral & written English), presentation, interpersonal, influencing and negotiating skills for engaging with a wide variety of state and non-state actors;

Ability to communicate complex messages in an accessible manner for varied audiences;

Good conceptual and analytical skills and ability to think and operate innovatively;

Good administration and organizational skills and ability to optimize independent use of time against variable workload;

Familiarity with the universal periodic review (UPR) process;

Good working knowledge of MS Office;

Commitment to LWF’s values and ethos.

Salary is as per the LWF-ET National staff salary scale 

Experience in a refugee set up is advantageous
